The programme runs from 23 April to 10 May 2020 - the original dates that the festival would have taken place, and includes new work made especially for the online format by Jenkin van Zyl, Yuko Mohri, Alberta Whittle and Liv Fontaine as well as further works by Georgina Starr, Urara Tsuchiya and Sarah Forrest. These artists, who were all part of the planned Glasgow International 2020, have been selected to create or contribute work for our Digital Programme to give audiences a taste of what the Festival aimed to bring them this year. In some cases, this is now with the added lens of our current context.
The programme includes a recording of a public lecture given by art historian TJ Clark in March 2020, in collaboration with the School of Culture & Creative Arts at the University of Glasgow, discussing the ways we pay attention to artworks through the particular example of a 1917 painting by Henri Matisse. There is also a discussion between writers Brian Dillon and Orit Gat, Curator Stefanie Hessler and Gi Director Richard Parry, recorded earlier this week, exploring the ways the resonance of the festival’s theme Attention has changed in light of the COVID-19 crisis.
